Anthony DiLorenzo |
Trumpeter and Emmy award-winning composer Anthony DiLorenzo has performed as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Pops. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, he has held principal trumpet positions with the Utah Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera Company as well as second trumpet with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Also a successful composer, Anthony is currently working on the full score for Benji Returns(from Rags to Riches) and has written music for ABC’s Wide World of Sports, and movie trailers for more than 70 films including 101 Dalmatians, Forrest Gump, Toy Story, and Crimson Tide. His concert works have been performed by the San Francisco, Utah, Louisiana, and Colorado Symphony Orchestras. |
Geoff Hardcastle |
Trumpeter Geoffrey Hardcastle is active as both a performer and teacher. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, he held the position of second trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra and continues to play frequently with them. He has also performed with the Akron Symphony, the Canton Symphony, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra and the Cleveland Ballet and Opera orchestras. As a chamber musician, he is a member of the Center City Brass Quintet, Cleveland Chamber Brass, Cleveland Chamber Symphony and the Burning River Brass. He is a faculty member at Cleveland State University. |
Scott Hartman |
Considered one of America's finest trombonists, Scott Hartman is an active recitalist throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan. In 1996, he performed the Japanese premiere of Anthony DiLorenzo's 'Little Buckaroo' with the New Japan Philharmonic on national television. His American solo appearances with orchestra include concerts with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra under Eric Kunzel. Scott performed in all 50 states during his tenure as trombonist with the Empire Brass and is a charter member of the world renowned trombone quartet, Four of a Kind. He has appeared on Today and GoodMorning, America, and was featured on the PBS documentary Sounding Brass. Scott is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and heads the trombone departments at Boston University and Yale University. He is a clinician for the UMI/Selmer Corporation. |
Hans Bohn |
Trombonist Hans Bohn is a member of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Handel and Haydn Society, Emmanuel Music and the new music ensemble, Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Hans performs regularly with the Boston Pops and the Esplanade Pops orchestra and can be heard on several Boston Pops recordings. In addition, Hans performs with symphony orchestras in Springfield, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Hartford and Portland, and has appeared with the Battle Creek Brass Band, Empire Brass Quintet, Grand Rapids Symphony, the Heidelburg Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra de Mineria in Mexico. Hans is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Northwestern University and currently teaches at Tufts University. |
Matthew Gaunt |
Matthew Gaunt is an active performer with orchestras such as the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Boston Ballet, New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic as well as the Vermont, Springfield and Portland Symphonies. Former principal tubist of the Albany Symphony and current tubist with the Burning River Brass, his chamber music experience includes national and international tours with Rhythm and Brass, Empire Brass, Boston Brass, Paramount Brass and Epic Brass Quintets. As a soloist, Matt has performed with the Springfield Symphony, Massachusetts Wind Orchestra, and Harvard University Wind Ensemble (one of a select few to ever perform on their rare sub-contrabass tuba). A graduate of the Boston University School for the Arts, Matt has served on the faculties of the South Shore Conservatory, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and served as the Brass Ensemble Director for the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. He is currently on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts. |
Paul McCandless |
Multi-instrumentalist and composer Paul McCandless inherited his artistic passion from his parents who were both music teachers. During a distinguished career spanning over three decades, McCandless brings a soaring lyricism to his playing and composing that has been integral to the ensemble sound of two seminal world music bands, the original Paul Winter Consort and the relentlessly innovative quartet, OREGON. Paul specializes on the oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, soprano and sopranino saxophones and a collection of folk flutes reflecting his grounding in both classical and jazz disciplines. As a student of Robert Bloom, he was a finalist in the 1971 English horn auditions for the New York Philharmonic. As a collaborator and solo artist he is credited with more than 200 albums and performances with such musicians as Jaco Pastorius, Carla Bley, Wynton Marsalis, Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny, Mark Isham, Steve Reich, Al Jarreau, Bruce Hornsby, Art Lande, Dave Samuels, Tony Furtado, and the String Cheese Incident. In 1996 he won a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones with whom he was a guest artist. Paul recorded three of his orchestral scores for a CD called Oregon In Moscow featuring OREGON and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Orchestra. Round Robin the opening track received two 2001 Grammy nominations for Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Arrangement. When Paul is at his home in Northern California, he teaches music at Full Circle, a residential treatment center for troubled teenage boys. |
Feza Zweifel |
Feza Zweifel maintains an active schedule as a versatile performer and arranger. He is a founding member of Proteus 7 and co-founder of Burning River Brass. Both groups concertize extensively and are Dorian recording artists. Prior to graduating from the Curtis Institute of Music, Mr. Zweifel appeared frequently with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Philadelphia Opera and Concerto Soloists. Feza serves as principal percussionist of the Cleveland Opera, Blossom Festival Band, and appears regularly as an extra or substitute percussionist/timpanist with the Cleveland Orchestra. In addition to his chamber music collaborations at Severance Hall and the Cleveland Museum of Art, Mr. Zweifel is a frequent guest of the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops as assistant principal timpanist |
